Course Description

Fixed Prosthodontics

Full coverage restoration on natural tooth abutments is often a better treatment option for patients than implant placement and restoration. However, dentists often lack confidence with their crown and bridgework skills, so patients are getting implants when they would be better served with bridgework. This course will demonstrate why bridgework is often the superior choice and then present a simplified step-by-step predictable technique for created full coverage restorations on natural tooth abutments. A step-by-step approach eliminates guesswork and exposes errors before they can be compounded and compromise the outcome. A philosophical basis for the entire approach that is based on sound engineering techniques will be presented. This approach has a 70+ year track record of success and numerous case examples from the last 70 years will be presented. All of the teeth in these cases were prepared and handled according to the same basic principles. Many of these cases will be showcased with follow-up X-Rays taken over decades.

The educational teaching methodology used in this course is a self-study lecture presented via pre-recorded webinar in concert with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Both the pre-recorded webinar and the PowerPoint presentation incorporate a variety of audio and visual cues to enhance audience members’ understanding and retention of key concepts.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course the participants should be able to:

  1. Learn why full coverage restorations on natural teeth are often superior to implant restorations
  2. Learn how to minimize periodontal disease and virtually eliminate recurrent decay with full coverage restorations
  3. Understand how to prepare teeth three-dimensionally that create health and correct deformites
  4. Understand how to fabricate provisional and final restorations that fit and do not fall out
  5. Learn basic principles that allow full coverage restorations to achieve an ideal, predictable result
  6. Learn how to restore teeth with little or no clinical crowns (without posts, buildups, fancy extrusion procedures or extensive crown lengthening).
