Course Description
Anesthesia, Pain Management
Utilizing a series of videos, this course is designed for clinical dental hygienists looking to refresh their basic knowledge of administering local anesthetic techniques. It provides step-by-step guidance and in-depth knowledge in administering local anesthetics to achieve profound anesthesia.
The educational teaching methodology used in this course is live, interactive lecture presented via Zoom webinar with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Both the live webinar and the PowerPoint presentation incorporate a variety of audio and visual cues to enhance audience members’ understanding and retention of key concepts. In addition, question and answer periods are provided for at the conclusion of each section of the live webinar.
Course Objectives
At the completion of this course the participants should be able to:
- Review of the trigeminal nerve focusing on maxillary and mandibular branches.
- Review the local anesthetic armamentarium.
- Identify the landmarks, insertion sites, needle insertion depth, and amount of anesthetic to deposit for each injection.
- Discuss step-by-step techniques using video illustrations for the following injections: PSA, MSA, ASA, IO, GP, NP, IAN, B, Lingual, Mental/Incisive.
