What is my Renewal Cycle?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - The required hours must be completed in the twelve (12) month period beginning October 1 of each year and ending September 30 of the next year.
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - The required hours must be completed in the twelve (12) month period beginning October 1 of each year and ending September 30 of the next year.
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - N/A

How Much Continuing Education Do I Need?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - Dentists shall complete twenty (20) hours of continuing education every year as a condition of licensure.
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Dental Hygienists shall complete twelve (12) hours of continuing education every year as a condition of licensure renewal.
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - There are no continuing education (CE) requirements for dental assistants in the state of Alabama.

What, if Any, Are The Mandatory Subjects?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - Dentists must maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the basic support level through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or an equivalent program. Dentists must achieve a minimum of one (1) hour of Continuing Education in the subject of infectious disease control every two (2) years. Dentists must achieve a minimum of one (1) hour of Continuing Education in the subject of prescribing controlled substances every two (2) years.
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - Dental hygienists must maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the basic support level through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or an equivalent program. Dental hygienists must achieve a minimum of one (1) hour of Continuing Education in the subject of infectious disease control every two (2) years. The combined number of hours of continuing education training in the course areas of insurance, governmental regulations, and tort liability and/or risk management shall not exceed a total of four (4) hours for the annual renewal period Practice management courses shall not exceed a total of three (3) hours for the annual renewal period.
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - Dental assistants who assist dentists during oral conscious sedation procedures must be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Is There a Limit to The Number of Online Classes

Half of total CEUs must be face-to-face. Zoom live CE webinars are not considered in-person training.
