What is my Renewal Cycle?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - All dental license​s issued by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry expire on December 31 of odd numbered years.
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - All dental hygiene license​s issued by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry expire on December 31 of even numbered years.
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - Registration simply means the dentist must update the names of their dental assistants as part of their license renewal process every two years. No action is required on the part of the assistant.

How Much Continuing Education Do I Need?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - All dentists and dental hygienists are required to earn 30 hours of continuing education during their two-year license period.
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - All dentists and dental hygienists are required to earn 30 hours of continuing education during their two-year license period.
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - Dental Radiologist must successfully complete a CODA-approved course in radiation safety and technique, OR Complete a six-hour Kentucky Board-approved course in dental radiography safety or A four-hour course in radiography technique approved by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry

What, if Any, Are The Mandatory Subjects?

DENTISTS (DDS, DMD) - "All licensed dentists in Kentucky must complete 3 hours of continuing education related to electronic prescription monitoring, pain management or addiction disorders Sedation Permit Holders (Minimal Pediatric Sedation, Moderate Enteral Sedation, Moderate Parenteral Sedation, or Moderate Pediatric Sedation) are required to complete not less than 6 hours of clinical continuing education related to sedation or anesthesia Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia permit holders shall complete not less than 4 hours of on-sight clinical continuing education related to sedation or anesthesia during the two year term"
DENTAL HYGIENISTS (RDH) - A Public Health Registered Dental Hygienist shall: During each renewal cycle, successfully complete a live three (3) hour course that has been approved by the board on the identification and prevention of potential medical emergencies that shall include, at a minimum, the following topics: - Medical history, including American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classifications of physical status; - Recognition of common medical emergency situations, symptoms, and possible outcomes; - Office emergency protocols; and - Prevention of emergency situations during dental treatments. Be required to complete at least five (5) hours of continuing education in the area of public health or public dental health during each renewal cycle
ASSISTANTS (RDA, CDA, EFDA) - A dental assistant must have current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that meets or exceeds the guidelines of the American Heart Association (AHA).

Is There a Limit to The Number of Online Classes

At least ten of these hours must be taken in a live interactive format.
