Course Description

Pediatric Dentistry

Following up on the first part of this two part lecture we will complete the dental trauma part by highlighting some new treatment options for traumatized teeth such as decoronation, autotransplantation and Regenerative Endodontics Procedures (REPs). We will also show several case studies which show how children can heal from dental injury and how one should consider the child in a larger context of just individual teeth… treating the forest not just a tree.

Following this we will concentrate on the “older” child, ages 13-18. The major section of this will cover the world of sports dentistry as sports plans a very important role in the lives of kids in this group. Dr. Mills has been involved in the world of sports dentistry for well over three decades and he feels that his background in this will make this a unique and very useful topic to bring to practices immediately. The presentation will conclude with discussions of other things that older children do as they are able to make more and moralize decisions on their own. Tobacco use, sugar sweetened beverage intake (especially sports drinks and energy drinks), and some newer choices such as vaping and others will be spoken of. We hope that all who attend will come away realizing that knowing about these things, especially sports dentistry can and should be part of every practice that sees kids.

The educational teaching methodology used in this course is a self-study lecture presented via pre-recorded webinar in concert with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Both the pre-recorded webinar and the PowerPoint presentation incorporate a variety of audio and visual cues to enhance audience members’ understanding and retention of key concepts.
