Course Description

Basic Science, Infection Control

Infectious diseases described over the past 5 decades include those caused by newly discovered microbial pathogens, re-emergent diseases, and infections which have become increasingly resistant to previously successful antimicrobials. The COVID-19 pandemic presented the latest challenge to infection control in both medical and dental facilities. This live webinar will primarily focus on a practical discussion of the most recent dental infection control recommendations. Included will be updates on occupational blood-borne (e.g. HBV, HCV, HIV), respiratory (e.g. influenza, tuberculosis, SARS-Co-V-2) and waterborne (e.g. Legionella, non-tubercle mycobacteria) pathogens as frameworks for the presentation. Also, myths which damage control against vaccine-preventable diseases will be discussed. Measles will be used as an important disease example of this emerging public health threat.
