Course Description

Periodontics

This course will delve into the diagnostic classifications of periodontal disease and the history behind the different classification systems on how to educate the dentist or allied health professional. Further, we will focus on how to determine prognosis, treat accordingly to that determination and what treatment modalities in the current sphere of periodontal therapy exist in order to treat the early, moderate and severe periodontal patient.

Course Outline:

Part 1 – Diagnosis and Classification as it has evolved (previously held on Tuesday, 1/14 at 7 pm ET)

    1. Diagnosis History and Reasoning
    2. Staging and Grading
    3. Prognosis and Treatment Outcome Determination
    4. Case Evaluations and The Art of Proper Charting

Part 2 – Treatment of Periodontitis (previously held on Tuesday, 2/11 at 7 pm ET)

    1. What are the newest modes of Treatment
      1. Non-Surgical
      2. Surgical
      3. Pre-Prosthetic Procedures
      4. Aesthetic procedures
    2. When should we replace teeth?
      1. Implant Treatment options
      2. Peri-Implantitis
      3. Implant Maintenance
    3. Outcome determination of a successful case

Part 3 – Treating Periodontitis in the New Era (Tuesday, 3/18 at 7 pm ET)

    1. What do we know post-COVID and the immune system?
    2. What is inflammation really and how does it pertain to Perio?
    3. How do laser therapies play a role in treating Periodontal Disease?
    4. What adjuncts are there to help us maintain periodontal health?
      1. Antibiotic
      2. Anti-Inflammatory
      3. Anti Tooth Loss Measures
      4. Over The Counter Measures
    5. Patient factors as they relate to Periodontal Successes

While recommended to take all three parts of this Periodontal Webinar Series, it is not required to take any of the previous sessions.

The educational teaching methodology used in this course is a lecture presented via live webinar in concert with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation. Both the live lecture and the PowerPoint presentation incorporate a variety of audio and visual cues to enhance audience members’ understanding and retention of key concepts. In addition, audience participation will be encouraged and facilitated by group discussions as well as question and answer periods provided for at the conclusion of each section of the live webinar.

At the completion of this course the participants should be able to:

  6. Understand periodontal therapy and periodontal regeneration as it relates to saving teeth
  7. Implant health and how it can be protected
  8. Develop Maintenance protocols for all types of dental patients
